Catholics for Choice Condemns Vatican for Turning Away LGBTQ Families

WASHINGTON — Catholics for Choice, which uplifts and amplifies the voices of the majority of Catholics who believe in reproductive freedom, criticized the Vatican’s announced position of denying blessings to same-sex marriages and describing LGBTQ families as “sinful”.

Catholics for Choice President Jamie L. Manson said: 

“It is an act of profound cruelty to invalidate LGBTQ families in any form. The Vatican’s needless attack on same-sex marriages seems to reflect an intention to put up walls that separate people and divide families instead of building bridges between all people. The Catholic imagination sees God everywhere, believes that God reveals Godself in all things and understands God can work through any human being or human relationship. By insisting that genital complementarity is an absolute requirement for marriage, the hierarchy places limits on God’s power to work within all of the relationships of all God’s beloved children.”

Catholics for Choice shapes and advances sexual and reproductive ethics that are based on justice, reflect a commitment to a person’s well-being and respect, and affirm the capacity of all people to make moral decisions about their lives.
